Misd is coming to Android

The most common message we get, by a wide margin, is some version of "when is this on Android?" Here's the honest answer: we're building it right now, and we're building it the slow way on purpose.

Misd launched on iOS first because a small team ships better when it ships one thing. That got us Moments, the local feed, messaging, Karma and Clout in the hands of real people in real cities. It also meant every Android user who heard about it from a friend had to wait. We know. This post is for you.

Screen for screen, not a lite version

A lot of apps treat their second platform as a smaller sibling. We're not doing that. Android Misd is being built to match iOS screen for screen: the same Moments, the same feed, the same messaging, the same Karma and leaderboard, the same design down to the spacing. If you and a friend are on different phones, you should be looking at the same app.

That's why it's taking a little longer than a quick port would. Every screen is checked against the iOS version before it's called done. Where Android does something differently, we follow Android, but the app you'll hold is the same Misd.

What's already working

The core of the app is in place: your profile, the feed, comments and profiles, messaging and notifications. Moments and the map, the most demanding part, are where the remaining work is concentrated, because on Misd the map isn't decoration. It's how you find your way back to a Moment.

We're testing on a range of devices, not just the newest ones. If Misd only ran well on a flagship, that would defeat the point of being for everyone.

When

We're not putting a date on this page, because we've all been burned by "coming soon" that means "someday." What we can say is that Android is the current focus of the team, and the release notes on this site will show progress as it lands. When it's ready, the Google Play badge on the homepage switches on, and codes go out.

How to be first in line

Misd is invite-only on every platform while we grow it city by city. Getting a code now puts you on the list for the Android release, and if you have an iPhone in the house, you can start using Misd today and your account carries over.
