Finding people

How do I follow up with people I met at a conference when I didn't get their card?
Conferences are three days of good conversations and one flight home with nothing to show for half of them. The badge scanner missed, the card is in a jacket you left in the hotel, or you simply talked and walked. Here's how to close the loop.
The attendee list is your friend
Most events publish an attendee or speaker list, or run an app with one. Sessions have their own rooms and hashtags. "The panel on Thursday at 2, second row" narrows a thousand people to fifty. Start there, then match faces to the session's photos and posts.
Search the hashtag, then the sponsors
Event hashtags are dense for a week after. People post their own photos, their panels, their booths. If they were staffing a booth, the sponsor's page will tell you who was there. If they were speaking, the schedule tells you their name.
No cards, no scanner, no hoping they remember your badge.
Ask the organizer, kindly
Organizers won't hand out contact details, but many will forward a short note. Keep it professional and specific: the session, what you discussed, what you're proposing. That's a normal request at any well-run event.
Misd: the room, as a list
Misd records a Moment when you and another Misd user were at the same place at the same time. At a conference that's the keynote, the happy hour, the booth aisle at 3pm. Open the Moment afterwards and the people who were in the room are there, ready to message. No cards, no scanner, no hoping they remember your name from the badge.
It works for a deal, a hire, a co-founder or just a good conversation you'd like to continue. You both need Misd; the fastest fix is to ask at the event. Invite-only today, iOS now, Android coming.
Questions people ask
- Is Misd for professional networking?
- It's for meeting people, and business is one of the reasons people meet. Misd doesn't decide what the conversation is about.
- Can I use it at a trade show or a meetup?
- Anywhere two Misd users are at the same place at the same time. Trade shows, meetups, the coworking floor.
- Does it replace the badge scanner?
- It catches everyone the scanner missed: the hallway and happy-hour conversations, which are usually the good ones.
