Meeting people

Updated September 18, 2026

Is there an app to meet people in your neighborhood?

The people you'd most like to know are within ten minutes of your door and you pass them every week. The neighborhood apps mostly aren't for that; they're for notices. Here's what actually gets you talking to locals.

Misd on an iPhone: Buzz, the feed of locals and communities around you.

What the neighborhood apps do

Nextdoor and the local Facebook groups are bulletin boards: recommendations, warnings, the odd sofa. Useful, and almost nobody makes a friend on one. Event apps get you into a room once. None of them know that you and the person from three doors down are both at the same café on Saturdays.

Locals meet locals through repetition. Pick one place and one time, a café, a market, a run, a pickup game, and keep it for a month. Familiar faces are the whole game; the neighborhood is smaller than it looks once you stop moving through it and start standing in it.

Misd: the block, by overlap

Misd records a Moment when you and another Misd user were at the same place at the same time. In a neighborhood that adds up fast: the same corner store, the same dog park, the same Sunday market. Those people show up in your Moments, and Buzz, the feed, is built from the locals you actually cross paths with, so it's about your streets by construction.

Clout, the local leaderboard, ranks by neighborhood. Show up, earn Karma, and you'll start recognizing the names at the top from the places you go. It's a reason to say hello that isn't awkward.

Getting in

Misd is invite-only right now, iOS today, Android coming. Get a code on misd.co and hand one to a neighbor; a block with two people on Misd is already a block where you can find each other.

Questions people ask

Does Misd show who lives near me?
No. It shows people who were at the same place at the same time as you. Neighbors appear because you overlap at the same places, not because of an address.
Can I hide my home or a place I don't want Moments at?
Yes. Hidden locations are a setting in the app; no Moment is recorded there.
Is Misd only for big cities?
It works anywhere two Misd users cross paths. It's growing city by city, and it gets better with every neighbor you bring.
